Fall Semester Only

Live, study, and worship together for one semester with fellow students at Westfield House in Cambridge, England—one of the world’s oldest and most famous university towns. The Concordia Cambridge semester typically begins around mid-September and ends around the third week of December.

Academics

The Concordia Cambridge courses give you greater freedom and responsibility in your education. The courses emphasize reading and discussing texts in seminars as well as writing and presenting papers in individual or small-group tutorials. In the Concordia Cambridge Program, you get to take special courses such as British Life and Culture and Christianity and the Arts. You can also take courses in Old Testament and New Testament. All courses count for general education, major, minor, or elective requirements at Concordia. Course offerings may vary per semester and academic year.

As a student at Westfield House, you can attend lectures by professors at Cambridge University and use the University Library. In connection with your courses, you will travel to sites such as the British Museum in London, Canterbury Cathedral, and Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon. You will also have free time to travel to and trek around Europe. Contact the Moon International Center to review a list of pre-approved Concordia Cambridge courses.

Housing & Meals

Live together in a university setting that has existed since 1209. Students will live in Luther Hall along with other students at Westfield House. Single occupancy and double occupancy are available. Luther Hall is a Christian environment, where students from all over the world live as a community. All occupants are expected to respect its ethos and cooperate in the running of the facility and the well-being of those who live there. A shared kitchen is available for use and students will be responsible for purchasing and preparing their meals. Grocery stores, a daily outdoor market, and a wealth of restaurants are within walking distance.

Additional Travel

Trips around England are offered in connection with certain courses. Students are responsible for any additional personal travel to and from other locations. It is not permitted to miss class for any personal travel or visiting family.

Application Process

The Concordia Cambridge Program is very competitive. Applications are reviewed by a committee and a select group of students will be approved to study abroad in Cambridge. All Concordia University Irvine students from any major or program may apply. Students must achieve and maintain a 3.0+ GPA to attend. Accepted students are mature, self-disciplined, culturally open, civil, and desire to live, study, and worship together.

Both the Concordia Cambridge Program Application and the Westfield House Application must be submitted to the Moon International Center by March 1st for the following fall semester. Acceptance to the program will be communicated via email by no later than March 10th so that students can plan for their fall semester accordingly.

Cost

Concordia University Irvine students are fully enrolled at Concordia for their semester abroad with Westfield House, Cambridge. This payment of home tuition expenses remains regardless of any publicized cost advertised by Westfield House, Cambridge. This means that a semester at Westfield House, Cambridge will include the following on a student’s bill:

  • Concordia University Irvine Semester Tuition
  • Concordia University Irvine Student Fee
  • Concordia University Irvine Housing
  • Mandatory International Insurance
  • $200 Study Abroad Fee

Additional expenses that are not included in your direct expenses to Concordia that you need to budget for are all meals, round-trip travel, passport, local transportation, and personal expenses.

Financial aid including federal, state, and institutional aid is applicable for students except for athletic and departmental-specific scholarships. Contact [email protected] to discuss your specific financial aid package as it relates to studying abroad.

Admission

All Concordia University Irvine students from any major or program may apply. Students must achieve and maintain a 3.0+ GPA to attend. Accepted students are mature, self-disciplined, culturally open, civil, and desire to live, study, and worship together.

Students will pay Concordia University Irvine tuition and housing. Students will need to pay for food abroad and airfare.
