CBEST and CSET

Test Requirements

The table below specifies requirements for the CBEST and CSET based on your candidacy. If you have any questions, or to learn more about Concordia University Irvine's Teacher Credential Program, please fill out our inquiry form, and we will respond promptly.

Test In Major Multiple Subject/EDSP Candidates In Major Single Subject Candidates Out of Major Candidates*

CSET When Congruent:
Passage, previous attempt or proof of registration for next testing date before admission.
Full passage of all subtests BEFORE Student Teaching.
Special circumstances may apply for EDSP candidates.
When Congruent:
Passage, previous attempt or proof of registration for next testing date before admission.
Full passage of all subtests BEFORE Student Teaching.
Single Subject candidates who completed a state-approved subject matter preparation program are exempt.
Full passage of all subtests of the CSET is required BEFORE admission.

*Candidates are considered "Out of Major" if their undergraduate major does not match the subject area they are going to teach. Here are two examples: A candidate may have an undergraduate degree in history, but is going for a secondary credential in chemistry; or the candidate may have a degree in art, and plans to go for a multiple subject elementary credential. As the undergraduate coursework does not match the test the candidate is required to take, the candidate will be required to pass the CSET before admittance to the Teacher Education Program.
