What is an Ed.D. Same-Day Acceptance Admissions Event?

A same-day acceptance admissions event is one way to streamline your admissions process and start moving toward your terminal degree and advance your career goals quickly and efficiently.

This event is held over Zoom. You will meet with a CUI admissions representative to review the admission requirements, complete your application, sit for 10 minutes to compose a condensed writing sample as your statement of intent, and interview with the Doctoral program director or program chairs, and find out whether you’re conditionally admitted to your desired program—all within 1 hour.

This event is specific to those who are ready to apply for the Doctoral program. This event will not be disseminating information about the program - we have an informational session for that! For more details about the information session, visit our information session webpage!

Why Attend an Ed.D. Same-Day Acceptance Event?

Attending a Same-Day Acceptance Event can offer several benefits, including:

  • Quick acceptance decisions
  • Convenient virtual format, accessible to candidates who have full-time jobs and those who are out-of-state
  • Submit a 10-minute, timed writing sample in lieu of the 3-5 page statement of intent requirement
  • An opportunity to complete an admissions interview with the program director or program chairs
  • Receive conditional acceptance on the same day, if approved

How to Prepare for this Event?

Once you RSVP for an event, gather all the necessary application materials (less the writing sample):

  • A current resume
  • Unofficial transcripts from your highest degree-granting institute (if the GPA is below the 3.5 minimum, please have an appeal letter prepared)
  • The name and contact information for 2 references: one from a supervisor and one from someone who can attest to your potential for doctoral study and leadership

The event includes a 10-minute, sustained writing segment. You will be asked to write about your a) educational goals b) short- and long-term professional goals c) professional activities d) research interests to be pursued in the program e) professional experience f) reasons for choosing the Concordia University Irvine doctoral program.

The event also includes an interview. Be prepared to talk about your academic and professional goals and respond to general questions from the program director or program chairs.

What Goes on During this Event?

When you RSVP for your admissions event, plan on spending up to 1 hour at the event. When you log on, you’ll meet with an admissions counselor to complete the application, sit for a 10-minute sustained writing segment, and then meet with the program director or program chairs for an interview.

Once you complete the interview, your admissions counselor and director will briefly meet to review your application materials and then let you know if you have been conditionally accepted or if more time is needed to review your file.

What Happens after the Event?

If you receive a verbal conditional acceptance at the event, a conditional acceptance will be issued to you the following day. However, you will need to take a few additional steps before you’re officially accepted. You’ll have to submit your official transcripts as well as recommendations.

Once all of your materials have been turned in, your admissions counselor will be able to change your acceptance to a full acceptance.
