Building on the broad foundations of the Liberal Studies major, studies are concentrated in Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History: Classical Period to Modernity, and 3 additional units pursuant to your passion.
Drawing on the foundation of the Humanities and Fine Arts core, this emphasis is composed of Music Theory 1 and 2, two courses on Music History, an upper division elective of your choice, and an Applied Music course.
“Applied music” (also known as private study) is the system in which students develop musical abilities on a specific (applied) instrument, voice, or composition. Most of the applied music program is based in private lessons with an expert teacher, although some classroom-style group instruction is also offered.
Worship at Concordia is designed for students with a Music Education, Liberal Arts, or Performance emphasis in the Music Major. A different set of courses within Worship Arts Leadership is scheduled for students with a Church Music emphasis in the Music major.
Students who complete the Bachelor of Arts in Music may choose to complete one or more optional concentrations in music. Concentrations are designed to help students prepare for professional work or graduate study in specific areas.
