In fall 2021, CUI will enroll students in its first PhD program, a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision through the Townsend Institute. Interest is strong, and one of the program’s architects, Dr. Margaret Christmas Thomas, is confident that it “will change the face of counseling in twenty years.”

Dr. Melinda Schulteis, Evan Neidholdt, and Brock Powell named as 2021 Alumni Awards recipients.
Alumni Homecoming 2021 pivoted from a beloved on-campus event to a temporarily virtual one as alumni gathered online across the globe. Registrants received a special “participation packet" complete with popcorn, games and access to exclusive online content. All alumni were invited to participate in virtual events such as a Meet the President meeting, live-streamed basketball and volleyball games, an estate planning seminar, an all-alumni (online) gathering, and an alumni award ceremony.
Tom Mueller, DMA, associate professor of church music and university organist, is busy as a working musician and a student of J.S. Bach, his forebear in organ.

Dr. Reyes Gauna, Ed.D. ’18, grew up working in the orchards near Lodi, picking cherries and other fruit alongside his parents who were emigrants from Mexico. Recently, Gauna earned his doctorate in education from Concordia University Irvine and now serves as a public school district superintendent near Stockton.
