2018 Trembath Lecture
A Theology of Commissioned Ministry
Since the founding of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, there have always been called pastors and called Lutheran teachers. Today as a synod the LCMS has expanded the ranks of called roster positions to include, Directors of Christian Education, Directors of Christian Outreach, Deaconesses, Directors of Parish Music, Directors of Family Life Ministry, and certified Lay Ministers. However, in the 170-year history of the LCMS, we have yet to fully distinguish the relationship between ordained pastors and those we categorize as commissioned ministers.
In this year’s Harry and Caroline Trembath Lecture, Dr. Dave Rueter will examine not only the biblical and historical foundation for a theology of commissioned ministry, but will assess the practical implications that a more fully formed theology related to the auxiliary or helping offices can have on the ministry of our churches and church workers. The lecture will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, 2:00-4:30 pm.
