Application Process

PAL Application Timeline

  • Applications available at the beginning of the Spring Semester.
  • Applications and individual interview sign-up due on Friday, February 8th at noon.
  • Individual Interviews set up by appointment, occurring February 11th through February 22nd.
  • Invitation Letters sent out Friday, March 1st.

Length of Commitment

PALs commit to the FYE program from date of acceptance in the spring semester through the Summer and the end of the Fall Semester.

Training Timeline

  • Spring Semester:
    • PALs participate in 3-4 training sessions during the spring semester.
    • Serve as Concordia Ambassadors for CU Premier
    • Find out PAL Pairings for the Fall Semester
  • Summer
    • PALs return for CU Soon Training on Friday, July 28th
    • PALs meet their new students for the first time at CU Soon on Saturday, June 29th
  • Fall Semester:
    • PALs arrive to campus a week and a half prior to classes starting to participate in Student Leadership Training and Fall Orientation!

Fall Orientation

PALs will lead a group, either comprised of freshmen or transfer students, and will host various activities and events designed to help new students connect with one another and develop a sense of belonging on campus.


Freshman PALs

  • Plan and oversee 4 social events to help new students connect with one another as well as the campus community.
  • Assist new students in INT 100 by leading activities and classroom discussions to help student engage in the content and feel comfortable participating in classroom engagement
  • Meet individually with new students to see how they are transitioning to the university and provide on-going support through their first year at Concordia.

Transfer PALs

  • Plan and oversee 4 social events to help new students connect with one another as well as the campus community.
  • Meet with new students to see how they are transitioning to the university and provide on-going support through their first year at Concordia.

INT 105: Leadership Course

All student leaders enroll in INT 105: Leadership, a 3-unit course to help students grow their understanding of leadership development. Once this class has been completed, student leaders do not have to take this course again.

*We are open to speak with you about your GPA if it is below our 2.5 requirement. You are still more than welcome to apply.

Unofficial Transcripts
Please submit a current unofficial CUI transcript (saved as a PDF from MyRecords) so that we can verify your GPA. Provide your transfer or high school GPA if this is your first semester at CUI. Email unofficial transcripts to fye@cui.edu by Friday, February 10, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. Your application will be considered incomplete without your unofficial transcripts.

Time Commitments for Next Year



We expect Student Leaders to prioritize their activities in such a way that they are students first and leaders second. All other outside employment or activities must be pre-approved by your supervisor during training, SOAR and Spring Orientation. With that said, what activities (work commitments, sports, clubs, music groups, organizations, outreach ministries, etc.) are you anticipating being involved in during the 2020-21 academic year?

Recommendation

 

Please provide the name and email address of a faculty member/advisor, administrator, coach, congregational pastor (or other congregational ministry leader), previous or current supervisor/employer (Student Affairs/abbey west staff may NOT be used as references) who will write a recommendation for you. A recommendation form will be emailed to them directly.

Please inform your reference that the completed Recommendation Form must be turned in no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2020, in order for your application to be considered.
