The Flood Subsides

Lent 2019

But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.

Genesis 8:1

First the fires raged across California and then…the rain! Oh how rain can be both a blessing and a curse. We need it to grow the plants, feed the animals, etc. but when it is a downpour the floods can be devastating. I feel that way sometimes with all of the stressors in life…kids practices, work, and family.

We all feel at some points in life if God has forgotten us and then when we least expect it, the flood subsides and we can see how God’s purpose. Sometimes on earth we can’t understand why something happened. “Why did my mom get cancer?” “Why did my best friend die in a car accident?” “Why did I fail that test?” Often we have to trust that God remembers us and even when we are getting tossed by the water, we know God is in control.

As we stay faithful in times of stress, it is important to remember that we need to lean on God. We can’t do it on our own and the Holy Spirit works faith in our hearts so that we ultimately know that victory is won through Christ. Although we don’t want to deal with the floods of life, I am glad that I have Christ there to sustain me when the water subsides.
