Concordia University Irvine’s Master of Healthcare Administration program receives CAHME accreditation

IRVINE, Calif. (May 24, 2022)—Concordia University Irvine's Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). With this accreditation, the University becomes the only online MHA program on the west coast to receive CAHME accreditation.

CAHME accreditation is highly sought after by students and employers. It ensures that graduate students pursuing an industry-aligned, fully online MHA can benefit from the same rigorous accreditation standards as students attending traditional, on-ground programs. CAHME is the only organization recognized to grant accreditation to individual academic programs offering a professional master’s degree in healthcare management education by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

“As CAHME-Accredited, the MHA program at Concordia University Irvine is recognized as meeting the high standards and criteria as developed by leading practitioners and academics,” noted Dr. Anthony Stanowski, DHA, President, and CEO of CAHME. “This means that students are well prepared to address the unique challenges to healthcare. The CAHME Board is very impressed with Dr. Sinardi’s leadership and the program’s emphasis on vocation and service as an essential part of healthcare delivery.”

Achieving CAHME accreditation is the culmination of significant effort from Concordia’s healthcare management programs. Concordia’s healthcare programs Assistant Director Melissa Holmes recalls the road to CAHME accreditation beginning nearly four years ago: “This rigorous process allowed us to take a good look at our program and improve it to offer the best education for our students.”

Once CAHME approved the initial proposal, Concordia’s MHA program entered the Candidacy phase, where they committed to continuous quality improvement with ongoing support from CAHME. The final step was a year-long self-study and concluded with a site visit to determine accreditation status.

“CAHME accreditation is considered the gold standard for graduate education in healthcare management,” said Dr. Cathi Sinardi, Director of CUI’s Master of Healthcare Administration program and Master of Public Health programs. “Achieving CAHME accreditation confirms Concordia University Irvine’s commitment to providing a solid foundation of knowledge and practical skills, combined with innovative learning opportunities that prepare our students to become leaders in the healthcare industry.”

Concordia’s online Master of Healthcare Administration program aspires to educate and prepare students for productive leadership in the health services industry locally and nationally. Graduates of CAHME-accredited programs work in various healthcare industry sectors, including hospitals, corporate medical systems, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, private practice offices, and community-based healthcare organizations. Professors in Concordia’s MHA program have backgrounds in various sectors of healthcare administration, while many work as practitioners or consultants in the healthcare industry.
