What is a minor in coaching?
A coaching minor equips you with the knowledge and skills to help athletes and teams reach their full potential — and helps you lead them to success.
Coaches don’t focus only on strategy and winning; they serve as motivators, mentors, and teachers who shape both athletic performance and personal growth. Earning your minor in coaching prepares you to serve in those roles.
At Concordia, the coaching minor includes 18 units (six courses). You’ll complete three required courses, including a practicum, and select three electives that align with your goals and interests.
What qualifies someone as a coach?
There’s no specific qualification needed to become a coach.
Coaching roles vary across high schools, colleges, and professional organizations. While formal requirements depend on the level and type of program, having a foundation in athletic coaching principles gives you a strong advantage.
