Jay Mason to Perform with Concordia Wind Orchestra
As one of L.A.’s leading session players, Jay Mason keeps a busy schedule. When he’s not recording on the latest summer blockbuster soundtrack, playing baritone saxophone in Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, or playing in the pit orchestra for the latest musical at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, he can be found instructing Concordia University saxophone players. Jay is a treasured faculty member at Concordia, a teacher who brings a wealth of commercial success to his excellent pedagogy.
On Thursday, November 8, Jay will join the Concordia Wind Orchestra in concert. He will play music from Catch Me If You Can by Hollywood composer extraordinaire, John Williams. Also, his incredible skills will be put to test in a very unique way, by performing on three instruments in one concerto – flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone.
The Concordia Wind Orchestra will also perform the timeless First Suite in Eb (Holst), Mao Yuan’s evocative A Legend from Yao, and other compositions by De Haan, Kernan, and Caneva. The Wind Orchestra is conducted by Jeff Held.
As a part of Concordia’s Preview Day weekend, all prospective students and their families will be admitted free (bring a printout of this ad to the box office). General admission is $8/$6.
Concert Date and Time: Thursday, November 8 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: CU Center (on the campus of Concordia University) – Irvine, CA
