EXCITING NEWS FOR FUTURE LUTHERAN CHURCH WORKERS!
New students who are members of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and are enrolling this fall in Concordia University Irvine’s LCMS church work programs will be awarded $13,200 in institutional financial aid. The expanded financial aid program reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to the Church by preparing the next generation of pastors, teachers, directors of Christian education, deaconesses and directors of parish music. “This is a great opportunity for high school seniors and transfer students who are considering vocations in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod,” said Rev. Dr. Steven Mueller, Dean of Christ College Undergraduate Studies. “We want to make instruction in solid Lutheran theology and preparation for effective ministry for students seeking to serve our Lord’s Church as accessible as possible.” Concordia University Irvine has 12 full-time theology professors, all published authors, who also have years of practical experience in ministry. Each church work student, regardless of his or her major, learns the vital roles of pastors, teachers, DCEs, deaconesses and parish music directors in order to gain a well-rounded perspective of congregational ministry. Studying with those preparing for other called ministries and with a variety of professors offers them a good foundation for their lifelong work together in the Church. Students attending the Irvine campus can also receive valuable insights on proclaiming the Gospel in a cross-cultural environment, which is prevalent in southern California. Upon enrolling for the 2007-2008 academic year, students enrolling in the pre-seminary, Lutheran teaching, DCE, parish music and pre-deaconesses programs will receive financial aid. This aid includes all resources such as academic awards, the Christ College Grant, home congregation matching grants, Lutheran High/student awards, etc. Activity awards such as theatre, music and athlete awards are above and beyond the Church Career Grant. Please note that any California resident receiving a state funded Cal Grant can only be awarded up to the Cal Grant financial need. Call (800)229-1200 ext 1106 or admission@cui.edu for more details. Students can apply for admission for free at www.cui.edu.
