Parents and Families

Stay connected, informed, and supported.

A group of people standing in a line

When your student is the first in your family to go to college, it’s also a new experience for you. At Concordia University Irvine, we want parents and families to feel included in this journey. Our goal is to keep you connected, informed, and supported as your student grows and takes on new responsibilities.

You’ll find resources designed just for you — like the Parent & Family Guide (available in English and Spanish).

As the parent of a first-generation college student, you’re going to experience a lot of firsts. Some will be exciting, some will be challenging — and we’re here to help you through all of them.

The most important thing you can do is support and encourage your student in their growth and their studies. Here are a few ways you can do that:

Instead of “Did you go to class today?” try, “How are your classes going?” or “What’s been the highlight of your week?” Broader questions often lead to more meaningful conversations.

College life can be stressful, even for the most studious students. They’re learning new things, meeting new people, and figuring out how to manage their time around classes and homework. Give your student the space to make their own choices while holding them accountable.

College is more than going to class and doing homework. Encourage your student to join clubs, organizations, or campus activities where they’ll meet new friends, build leadership skills, and grow as individuals.

Concordia cannot send your student’s grades directly to you because of federal laws that protect your student’s privacy. If you’re curious about their grades, you’ll need to ask your student about them. Remember to listen with an open mind and encourage them, whether they’re excelling or still figuring college life out.

  • CUI Parent and Family Facebook Group
  • Parent & Family Connection Association
The CUI Parent & Family Connection Association (CUI PFCA) is a free organization that encourages parents and family members of current CUI students to share their talents, experiences, and resources to stay connected throughout their students’ journey. Whether you live near or far, each parent or guardian can be an integral part of the CUI Parent & Family Connection Association.

The Parents Fund enhances the student experience at Concordia University Irvine through annual gifts from parents of current and former students. These gifts become your contribution to the Concordia Fund, the University’s comprehensive Annual Giving Fund. Gifts to the Parents Fund are a reflection of the value you and your family have in the “Concordia Experience.” They immediately contribute to exceptional teaching, classroom technology, and research resources. From the sports field to the arts stage, the science lab to the residential facilities, the Parents Fund keeps undergraduate life thriving.

Whether you have questions or need direction, our team is ready to assist you.
