The graduate theology certificate at Concordia University Irvine is ideal for students who wish to expand their theological knowledge without completing a master’s degree. Should you choose to study theology beyond the program, courses completed for the graduate theology certificate may be applied toward Concordia’s Master of Arts in Theology.
Admission requirements for the certificate are the same as Concordia’s graduate programs. If you’d like to move on to a master’s program, a separate application is required.

Why get a graduate certificate in theology?
Some people want to deepen their knowledge of Christian theology without committing to a full master’s degree program. Perhaps they want to take several classes but do not want to write a master’s thesis. Perhaps now is not the time for a full master’s degree. Whatever the case, a graduate certificate in theology allows you to take several high-level theology courses to enrich your understanding of God’s love in Christ.
Does a graduate certificate mean a master’s?
If you decide after finishing your certificate that you wish to complete a master’s degree in theology here at Concordia, then all of the courses in the certificate will count toward your master’s degree. You don’t even have to go right into the master’s degree—you can come back a few years later if that works better for you.
