Read Luke 2:1-20
“In those days…” yada, yada, yada. Sometimes we can read or hear the Christmas story without much thought. Shepherds, angels, swaddling clothes - we may have heard it so many times that we can miss how extraordinary this account really is. The historical references, locations, people are all given to say, “Hey, look at this. This actually happened, in real life, at a particular point in history, in a certain town, with specific people there to see it.” God, the Creator, has come to His creation as creature, the Christ child. Do we realize how remarkable this is? The God who is infinite contains himself in something finite. God, whom we cannot approach because of our sin, leaves heaven to come to us. This truly is “good news of great joy…for all people.”
Prayer: Father, thank you for sending Your Son into this world and for making this known to me by Your Word and Spirit. Help me as I share this good news of great joy with others. Amen.
