Read Luke 9:1-27
“They all ate and were satisfied.” There are times in life when it is difficult to trust in the Lord’s provision. Sometimes we struggle to discern the proper balance between pursuing earthly comforts and seeking only “spiritual things”.
This miracle is another signpost pointing to Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah. Just as God fed the Israelites with bread from heaven, Jesus feeds the crowd that has gathered. But Luke also teaches us something more: in receiving what Christ provides, we too are satisfied.
Our Lord instructs His disciples to pray for their daily needs: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Yet Jesus also reminds us that man does not live on bread alone, but on the Word of God. In the chapters to come, He invites His disciples—and us—to eat of His very body in the Lord’s Supper.
Christ is our provision in all things. In Him, our deepest needs are met, and in Him, we are truly satisfied.
Prayer: Father, you provided for the Israelites in the wilderness. You provide for us today with our daily needs. Thank you. Continue sustaining me from day to day and help me to trust and rely on you. Thank you for your Son and His provision of life and salvation. Amen.
