Faith that Endures

Lent 2026

Read Luke 9:51-10:24

I find it curious that sometimes we begin to think that life as a Christian means life that is easier. Jesus, in all his words and teachings never gives this picture or impression. Even if we go no further than looking at the reading for today we see that Jesus’ journey to the cross results in rejection and he says the same is true about those who would follow him and be sent out by him. Jesus is clear, “Following me means following someone who has no place to lay his head. Being sent out by me means being sent out like lambs among wolves. Bearing witness about me to others will in many cases lead to rejection”…Yes! Jesus, sign me up!

The benefits and blessings of being a disciple of Christ are different than those that make life “easier.” Jesus tells us, “Your peace is knowing the Kingdom of God has drawn near. You rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Your blessing is getting to hear and see the gifts of heaven given in and through me.” Please Lord, by your grace.

Prayer: Lord, give me strength for the difficulty of life. Help me to be bold in the message of the cross. Be with my Christian brothers and sisters around the world being persecuted for their faith. Grant them a faith that endures in all things. Amen.
