Life Leaks

Lent 2019

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’

John 7:38

Are you thirsty? Picture a nice big glass of your favorite refreshing beverage. Picture how it replenishes you. How it fills you up and satisfies your thirst. We need water for life to survive and thrive. We literally cannot live without it. It is a non-negotiable. It is impossible to live without water. Impossible.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 To please God without faith is a non-negotiable, and this gift of faith fills us “with rivers of living water.”

The problem is that life leaks. Faith fluctuates. One day we are persuaded, convinced and confident. The next we are insecure, afraid and timid. Life causes us to leak. We question our value, we are mired in uncertainty, and we are distracted by life’s anxieties. But I have good news. Faith in Christ answers: you are fearfully and wonderfully made, there is no one else like you or will there ever be on this planet. No matter how many disappointments you carry today, you are secure in Christ. Faith in Christ is your anchor for a life that seems at times to drift. Faith in Christ fills you up when life has you depleted.

But I even have more good news… from within you flows living water not just for you, but for others, because you are not the only one who leaks. Today, see yourself having divine appointments with others who, like us, need to be filled with faith in Christ.
