Flood of Life

Lent 2019

He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.

Psalm 107:29

The power of the ocean is overwhelming; think about the complete vastness of the sea, what do you envision if you were all alone? The sound of a stormy ocean, the crashing of the waves, the smell of the surf, and the darkness of the sky brings a sobering thought of being alone with only the immeasurable tide around you. Life can bring this feeling as we often get caught in the flood of life. Psalm 107:29 brings a picture of hope as our God is there to still the storm and marvelously transform our life. He is there to hush the waves that seem to crash over us. God and only God can quiet a storm. He is bigger than the immensity of the sea and a life full of challenges that we cannot conquer alone. God shares his steadfast love for us through His Son. This Son also calms a storm in Matthew 8:26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was great calm. The Son continues to calm the storm in our lives. He shows us that our sins are forgiven through Christ and that God and only God has the power. He shares the power with us through His death and resurrection on the cross, and we can be sure that the calm comes from knowing He is our Savior.
