Matthew Busch ’12 has spent the past year as a professor of trumpet at Nanhai Conservatory of Music on the island province of Hainan, off China’s south coast. He and three other American professors were hired to educate students about the value of western music, and to improve artistic standards for orchestral wind instrument music there, which Busch has done both on and off campus.

Concordia's science department received a $10,000 grant from the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) to create a Women of Faith in Science program, which combines lab research and reflection on what it means to be a Christian woman in a scientific field.

Rio Nakasone ’17 was born and raised in Japan by fashion designers who owned a chain of women’s clothing stores. At CUI, he gained the skills to become a graphic designer for a hot brand back in Tokyo. More important, he learned the art of effective communication.

Kendall says his undergraduate work in the Biblical Languages major gave him the foundation not only for seminary, but for the Ph.D. he hopes to pursue, and eventually for his role as a pastor someday. “I learned how to study the scriptures to feed myself spiritually and be prepared to teach others as well.”

Lila Musegades '18 is presently pursuing a Master’s of Food Science and Technology at Washington State University. Her master’s thesis focuses on the microbiology of wines and ciders with a specific interest in improving the fermentation processes of cider. Her career goals include becoming a Food Chemist and pursuing a doctoral degree.
