Concordia University Irvine Joins the White House COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge
IRVINE, CA (June 2, 2021) - The White House and the U.S. Department of Education are inviting colleges and universities across the country to join efforts to end the pandemic by signing up for the COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge.
“Concordia University Irvine is pleased to join this national campaign to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates in our community and in campus communities across the country,” says Dr. Michael Thomas, CUI president. “The Challenge is directly in line with our efforts to strongly encourage the vaccination of all staff, faculty, and students.”
The Challenge comes on the heels of President Biden’s announcement of the goal to administer at least one vaccine shot to at least 70 percent of adult Americans, and of 160 million Americans being fully vaccinated by July 4th. Meeting that goal is critical to save lives and help our country return to normal. To do this, the Administration is calling on campus communities to help reach young people to provide information and access to vaccines. Concordia University Irvine, along with the other participating colleges and universities, commits to taking three key actions to help get campus communities vaccinated:
- Engaging every student, faculty, and staff member - Make sure every member of the campus community knows they are eligible for a vaccine and has resources to find one.
- Organizing their college communities - Lead the way by identifying champions for vaccine efforts across campus and implementing a plan to get as many members of the college community vaccinated as possible.
- Delivering vaccine access for all - Bring vaccines on-site and make it easy for students, staff, and faculty to get vaccinated at sites nearby them this summer.
