Religious liberty advocate Ryan T. Anderson and LGBT-rights advocate John Corvino to debate
IRVINE, Calif.—January 9, 2018—As part of its academic convocation series, Concordia University Irvine will be hosting speakers and authors John Corvino, Ph.D. and Ryan T. Anderson, Ph.D. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 as they debate religious liberty and discrimination. The debate will be held at 4:30 p.m. in DeNault Auditorium on the campus of the university located at 1530 Concordia West in the city of Irvine. The event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required by visiting www.cui.edu/debate.
John Corvino, a longtime LGBT-rights advocate, is Professor and Chair of Philosophy at Wayne State University and author of several books with a focus on the morality of homosexuality. Ryan T. Anderson, author and religious liberty advocate, is William E. Simon Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.
The authors will debate issues stemming from their 2017 book Debating Religious Liberty and Discrimination. The debate will feature controversies from today’s headlines, such as business owners, who on religious grounds, refuse to provide same-sex wedding services. The conflicts, however, extend well beyond the LGBT arena. What counts as discrimination? When is it unjust? What is religious liberty?
The debate is presented by the Department of History and Political Thought and the School of Arts and Sciences at Concordia University Irvine.
