Exciting Plans for The Future

Dr. Michael Thomas

Dear Friends,

Concordia University Irvine has always been an institution of higher education that forms the whole student. Each student is guided to find their own balance between academics, athletics, service projects, spiritual life, family responsibilities, and other activities. Our campus layout reflects this pedagogical balance. The CU Center for Worship and the Performing Arts stands intentionally at the center of campus. It is surrounded by academic classrooms, labs, theatres, athletic fields, CU Arena, and green spaces. Excitingly, much of this area, including the CU Center and the Nelson Amphitheatre, will be under construction in the next few years thanks to a very generous, transformational gift, and to many of you who bless Concordia with your on-going, faithful support.

The Eagle Athletics Initiative is a key aspect of these exciting plans for the future. The softball field will undergo a complete transformation into a stadium, with much needed upgrades for spectators’ enjoyment, including new seating. Just beyond right field, we will construct a two-story, 12,000 sq. ft. field house to provide a home for seven sports. This building, via a sky bridge, will provide convenient access to the CUI field and to a separate 6,000 sq. ft. building, hosting a fitness training center. The second floor will be used as an entertainment venue and will provide 360° views of baseball, softball, and the CUI field, used by soccer, lacrosse, and track & field.

Our administrators are currently submitting these plans for final approval, and our Advancement Office is working diligently with our faithful donors to ensure that we complete these projects without incurring long-term debt.

Join me in thanking our Lord for his ever-present blessings, and let me thank each of you for your ongoing support of Concordia. Continue to pray for our faculty and staff, an exemplary group of individuals who continue to answer their Lord’s callings as we serve His students.

For His Students,
Michael Thomas, PhD
