Concordia University Irvine Reveals New Logo, Seal, Mascot, and Marketing Campaign

Irvine, CA – August 10, 2022 As it nears its 50th anniversary, Concordia University Irvine launches a university-wide rebrand. The institution takes this step to ensure its presence and position in higher education reflects the distinctive, high-quality Lutheran Christian education offered to students in Irvine, across the country, and worldwide.

“This rebrand is an important step in Concordia University Irvine’s history,” said President Michael A.Thomas. “As we’ve matured into a comprehensive university that provides an exceptional education that prepares each of our students for all of life’s vocations, it became clear that we needed to tell this story more clearly, more boldly, and more widely!”

Within this rebranding campaign, a new color palette of green and gold unites the university and athletic brands, along with a fresh new logo. The official university seal and mascot have also been updated. 

The academic imagery is distinguished and classical and recalls the iconic worship space on campus and Concordia’s Lutheran heritage and Christian commitment. The athletic marks, in contrast, are bold, forward, and confident. Both trajectories reflect Concordia University Irvine's outlook for the next 50 years.

“What we found in the research phase of our brand study was that much of what the market is looking for and perceives as quality is at the core of who we are and what we offer at Concordia,” said George Allen, Associate Vice President of Marketing. 

The “Freedom to Explore” campaign, paired with the rebrand, communicates Concordia’s unique educational experience. It aims to highlight the beautiful Concordia community and show how a private Christian education is an experience of unparalleled exploration and growth by design. 

To bring the concept to life, a weeklong video and photo shoot was conducted in June 2022 on campus and around Greater Irvine. Concordia’s own students, alumni, faculty, and staff are featured in the campaign.

“We believe that the results of this work – both the new visual identity and the campaign launch – will give us new ways of positioning our institution, articulating our mission persuasively, and attracting prospective students,” said Allen.
