Concordia University Irvine Climbs in College Rankings

U.S. News & World Report Names Concordia University Irvine as a “Top Tier” Regional University in 2017 College Rankings

IRVINE, Calif. (September 15, 2016)— Concordia University Irvine  climbed to 41st place from 55th in the 2017 Best Regional Universities West Rankings according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings released Tuesday and was also ranked 23rd as one of the 2017 Best Colleges for Veterans. About 3,000 four-year universities in the United States are ranked annually by U.S. News & World Report nationally, and in four regions—North, South, Midwest, and West. Concordia University Irvine ranked 41st among 141 colleges and universities in the West Regional rankings.

“We’re pleased to be competing in a category with so many Cal State universities which have a reputation for academic quality,” said Concordia University Irvine President Kurt Krueger. “To date, this is the highest ranking that our non-profit private university has received.”

Nearly 10 Cal State universities (CSU) made the West Regional rankings including Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. Concordia Irvine ranked higher than CSU Los Angeles, CSU Stanislaus, and CSU Northridge. Southern California universities named to the National University category include UC Irvine, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, and USC.

Ranked 23rd out of 31 universities in the Best Colleges for Veterans Regional Universities West category, Concordia University Irvine shared the category with Loyola Marymount University, California Baptist University, and two CSU schools—Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Jose University. The Best Colleges for Veterans category is made up of top-ranked schools in the 2017 Best Colleges rankings that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active duty service members pay for their degrees.

More than 10 factors determine rankings which include graduation rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving. Best Regional Universities offer a range of undergraduate and graduate programs. U.S. News & World Report has been ranking colleges and universities across the United States for over 30 years.

Concordia University Irvine, affiliated with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, is one of 10 colleges and universities in the Concordia University System, and along with two seminaries, 130 high schools, and 900 elementary schools forms the largest protestant church-related system in the country.
