Through Partnership with School Districts, Clear Induction Provides Access to Dynamic New Teacher Support and Best Practices Assessment Program 

IRVINE, Calif. – August 1, 2014 – Concordia University Irvine announced today an expansion to its teacher credentialing curriculum through the launch of its Clear Induction Credential Program. The University is one of the few institutions of higher education currently offering a Clear Induction Credential program, approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for Single Subject, Multiple Subject, and Education Specialist Clear Credentials.

Through the new program, Concordia University Irvine provides multiple professional development opportunities to help improve teaching and classroom management strategies, as well as nurturing leadership potential and the navigation of coursework and self-assessment of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

The induction model is bolstered by partnerships formed between universities and the employing school district or private school sit, to support and provide professional development for new teachers. This differs from a “Clear” Credential Program where there is little or no interaction with the district and the program is strictly for course credits. Concordia University Irvine took into account insight from its academic advisory council which includes local district representatives, to determine which credential format would be the most beneficial for new teachers within the context of current state resources and requirements. Credits may also be applied towards Concordia University Irvine’s graduate programs.

“With many districts unable to offer beginning teacher support and assessment (BTSA) programs, it was clear that there was a need for a strong support system for new and future generations of teachers,” said Ann McKellar, PhD., faculty lead for the School of Education at Concordia University Irvine. “The Clear Induction Credential Program at Concordia University Irvine provides the resources and opportunities for teachers to develop richly as reflective educators within a learning community which fosters resilience and advanced levels of teaching proficiency, as they transition into the first years of teaching.”

In addition to the basic California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) standards, the Concordia University Irvine Clear Induction program provides weekly group chats and other support for the challenges every teacher faces daily with their students. Group discussions center on questions on every new teacher’s mind, such as how to set up a classroom management program, how to prepare to be observed and evaluated by administrators, and how to communicate effectively with parents, including families with diverse languages and cultures.
