School of Business at Concordia University Irvine Appoints New Professors
IRVINE, Calif.—June 25, 2018—The School of Business at Concordia University Irvine has named new professors to its full-time faculty. Professor Kim Chatani of Irvine and Professor Michael Kinnen of Riverside will begin teaching courses this fall in the business school of the Christian liberal arts university.
Professor Kim Chatani will teach graduate and undergraduate-level courses including accounting, finance, governance and risk management, international finance, and financial statements analysis. Prior to joining Concordia University Irvine as an adjunct professor in 2015, Chatani’s corporate background included partner and director roles at national firms such as Arthur Anderson LLP and BearingPoint, formerly KPMG, LLP. He is an advisory partner and board member for Irvine-based Khronicle Partners, Inc., a boutique management consultant firm, and has been featured as a cyber-security and risk management expert in Forbes, Moody’s, and American Banker. Chatani has authored and co-authored fraud casebooks and contributed to training manuals for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is the vice president of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Orange County Chapter and is also the chair of the audit committee at a national bank and healthcare management consultancy. Chatani holds an MBA in Finance from Boston University, a bachelor of science in Accounting from the State University of New York Albany, and five professional certifications (CPA, CFE, CISA, FCPA, and CGMA).
Professor Michael Kinnen, who has more than 20 years of managerial and executive experience in valuation and management consulting, will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses such as corporate finance, advanced valuation techniques, investment analysis, portfolio management, and financial statement analysis. Prior to teaching at the college level, Kinnen counseled corporate clients about mergers and acquisitions, capital budgeting, solvency, and restructuring. His corporate experience includes serving as a chief operation officer of a $50 million investment fund and working with more than 100 corporate boards on business strategy and corporate valuation. Before being named a full-time professor, Kinnen served as an adjunct professor at the School of Business for four years. His firm, MindStorm Group, provides strategic advisory services to corporate boards. Kinnen earned an MBA from UCI and a bachelors in English and accounting from La Sierra University. Currently, he is a candidate for a doctoral degree in accounting in the Doctor of Business Administration program at George Fox University. His areas of research include leadership development practices in accounting firms, valuation of family and closely held businesses, and the role of family offices in managing entrepreneurial wealth.
