Church and Community Relations

Supporting churches and communities

Concordia University Irvine serves as a bridge between higher education and the Christian community in Orange County and beyond. Through church and community relations, we develop meaningful partnerships with churches and Christian schools, helping students discover their callings in full-time ministry while strengthening the Church at large.

We connect congregations with Concordia’s vibrant community through student music, faculty speaking engagements, and pastoral support including Bible studies, guest preaching, and pulpit supply. Our team also raises scholarship support for students pursuing church work vocations, ensuring the next generation of Christian leaders is equipped and empowered to serve.

Whether you’re a pastor seeking a guest preacher, a youth director looking for ministry resources, or a church exploring partnerships, we’re here to serve you.

In the Lutheran tradition, vocation means more than just your career — it’s every role through which you serve others and reflect God’s love. Martin Luther taught that any position that helps others is a calling through which God works in the world.

At Concordia, we believe you’re called to serve in many ways: as students and professionals, family members and friends, volunteers and neighbors. But service also happens in everyday moments — the brief encounters with people who cross your path and need compassion, presence, or help.

Through service opportunities on campus and in the community, our students learn to respond to these callings with presence (choosing to be with someone in their need), compassion (caring for your neighbor without boundaries), and purpose (seeing beyond immediate needs to systemic change). Whether students serve through organized mission trips, local volunteer work, or simple acts of kindness, they participate in God’s care for the world and live out their faith in action.

At Concordia University Irvine, we believe true freedom is found in service.

Join the Concordia community for our annual CONCORDIAserves, a one-day service event when more than 1,000 members of our Concordia family step out into the community to serve dozens of nonprofit partners in Irvine and across Orange County. This special tradition is just one way that we engage alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, donors, and friends around the world to serve where they are, in the way they can.

As a liberal studies major, you can combine your degree with a related minor, double major, or a pre-professional program. Many of our students choose to earn their California credential while they earn their undergraduate degree. Because our class sizes and enrollment are not impacted, you can finish both the Liberal Studies major and the California credential in just over four years.
