What is a marketing minor?
A minor in marketing is a group of classes that can optionally be added to your bachelor’s degree. At Concordia, you will take four required classes and then choose two other courses based on your interests for a total 18 units.
Is it worth it to minor in marketing?
If marketing is a field you’d like to pursue, then a marketing minor could definitely be worth it. Marketing knowledge can give you a wide variety of career options, as well.
The outlook for marketing managers is excellent: Between 2023-33, these roles are projected to grow 8% – faster than the average for all occupations.1 That’s about 36,600 openings for advertising, promotions, and marketing managers are projected each year, on average, over the decade.1
The largest employers for marketing majors in 2023 were in1:
- Professional, scientific, and technical services
- Management of companies and enterprises
- Finance and insurance
- Wholesale trade
- Manufacturing
What is taught in marketing courses?
When you take a variety of courses – like those within a marketing minor – you can learn a lot about theories, principles, and practices.
As you get deeper into the classes, you will learn about more specific areas of marketing. For example, Concordia’s Marketing Research course teaches survey methods and statistical analysis techniques. And a class like Digital Marketing focuses on areas like social media and mobile marketing. Your class topic will dictate what you will learn.
