Why study classical languages?
The classical Western languages – Greek and Latin – are worth studying because so much of English is derived from them. In terms of Christianity, you may want to know Greek and Latin to read biblical and medieval texts. This allows you to gain an understanding of words written hundreds or thousands of years ago.
What do classical languages include?
Typically, when people speak about the classical languages, they’re referring to Greek and Latin – especially when it comes to Christianity and Western thought. The Classical Languages minor at Concordia allows you to study both of these languages through 22 units of coursework.
