Belinda Karge

Biography

Dr. Belinda Karge is a professor in the Doctoral Program at Concordia University Irvine and a Professor Emeritus from California State University, Fullerton. At Concordia, she coordinates curriculum and instruction for the doctoral program, supports program development and assessment, leads faculty professional learning, advises doctoral dissertations, and oversees the Special Education specialization. She also leads the university’s annual doctoral policy class trip to Washington, D.C., following her fellowship with the Institute of Educational Leadership (IEL).

Her career includes extensive experience in public education, having taught at the preschool, elementary, and high school levels before holding faculty and administrative positions at CSU Northridge, San Diego State University, and CSU Fullerton. At CSU Fullerton, she served as department chair and coordinator of the Autism, Inclusion, Mathematics and Science (AIMS) Scholar Program.

Dr. Karge is widely recognized for her expertise in research-based instructional strategies and for her substantial scholarly contributions. Her professional record includes more than 135 peer-reviewed journal articles, multiple textbooks, curriculum texts, book chapters, educational tools, and over twenty million dollars in funded grants. She is a sought-after presenter and consultant in whole school reform, inclusive practices, co-teaching, online and face-to-face engagement strategies, and effective teaching in diverse classrooms. She also serves as a consultant for the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools.

Her dedication to the profession has earned numerous honors, including the National Council for Learning Disabilities Floyd Hudson Outstanding Service Award and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) Service to the Profession Award. She is also past president of the National Association for Alternative Certification.

Dr. Karge enjoys hiking with her husband Doug and has led numerous mission trips across the United States and abroad. She is a committed Lutheran and continues to serve both her academic community and her church community through teaching, service, and mentorship.
