Preparing for Your Audition
Once you have completed the Music Scholarship Interest Form, you are ready to schedule a music audition. Students are encouraged to audition as early as possible to maximize music scholarship opportunities.
Audition Specifics
When scheduling your audition, request the area or areas that best match your musical interests.
- Voice / Choir: Dr. Michael Busch
- Band or Orchestra: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion with Dr. Jeff Held
- Handbells: Professors Alex Guebert and Erik Der
- Worship Band / Commercial Music: guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums, and voice with Prof. Steve Young
- Composition: Dr. Tom Mueller
- Jazz & Americana: Dr. Tom Mueller
- Piano & Organ: Dr. Tom Mueller
Audition Timing
Music scholarships are awarded throughout the year, but scholarship funds and ensemble openings become more limited later in the spring.
Auditions are accepted through the summer, with priority funding through May 1. Students may audition within one year of their potential enrollment.
Schedule an Audition
To schedule an audition, complete the Music Scholarship Interest Form and then submit an audition request with your preferred weekday audition date. Auditions are an opportunity to share your musical background and goals with Concordia’s music faculty.
In-Person or Online
In-person auditions are preferred whenever possible. If you are unable to visit campus, video auditions may be submitted for review. Instrumental applicants should record the performance portion in advance and provide a link to the recording before the online meeting.

Explore Audition Requirements
Voice Auditions
Prepare two solo selections that demonstrate your vocal ability. In-person auditions may also include sight reading, rhythm exercises, and a brief interview.
Band & Orchestra Instruments
Prepare a solo, étude, or selected band/orchestra excerpts, plus an interview with the Director of Orchestral Activities.
Piano & Organ
Prepare one or two pieces that demonstrate your highest level of musical achievement. Auditions may also include sight reading and a brief interview.
Composition
Composition applicants submit scores for two or three original compositions or arrangements and, when possible, audio or video recordings.
