Biography

Andrew Gutierrez is an Assistant Professor of Film and Digital Video Production at Concordia University Irvine, where he teaches film history, film production, and creative media courses. With more than three decades of experience across corporate, commercial, feature film, and live television production, he brings a comprehensive, hands-on industry perspective to his students.

His production journey began in theatre at El Teatro Campesino under the direction of Luis Valdez, acclaimed director of La Bamba and Zoot Suit. This early mentorship led to an introduction to producer Moctesuma Esparza, who brought Andrew onto the feature film Selena. Over the years, Andrew advanced steadily through the production ladder—from Production Assistant to Production Coordinator, Production Manager, Editor, Segment Producer, and Director—giving him a uniquely holistic understanding of the filmmaking process.

Andrew’s professional work includes high-profile projects such as ABC’s live interview broadcast from Neverland Ranch with Michael Jackson and Oprah Winfrey, work on Warner Bros.’ Selena starring Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos, and filming across nine countries including Morocco, Jordan, Israel, and Fiji. He has earned three Telly Awards for corporate productions, produced segments featuring Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, directed the children’s feature The Curious Story of Spurious Falls, and received multiple honors for his short film Paz, including the Illustrious Award for Best Director at the Mexican American Film and Television Festival.
