Kate Doss is an artist and educator whose work investigates memory, place, and the quiet significance of everyday objects and spaces.
Doss earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Laguna College of Art and Design. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and has more than fifteen years of experience teaching visual art, design, art history, and art education at the secondary and collegiate levels. Since 2024, she has served as an AP Art History Reader for the College Board, evaluating student responses as part of the annual Advanced Placement Exam Reading.
She works primarily in painting and printmaking. Through her art, she invites the viewer to engage deeply with observation, reflection, and the beauty found in ordinary moments. Her work has been exhibited throughout California, Massachusetts, and the Midwest and is held in private collections.
At Concordia University Irvine, Doss teaches Children’s Art and Drawing I. Her teaching is informed by her ongoing studio practice and emphasizes strong technical foundations, creative inquiry, and thoughtful pedagogy. She is passionate about helping students cultivate both artistic skill and confidence while encouraging them to engage deeply with observation, visual culture, and the creative process.
