Dr. Gauna began his career in education as a Custodian and Campus Security Monitor, gaining firsthand insight into school operations at every level. His work across K–12 and adult education has shaped a leadership philosophy grounded in collaboration and shared purpose, emphasizing the importance of engaging students, families, educators, and community partners in a collective vision for success.

While working on school campuses, Dr. Gauna developed a passion for teaching, launching a career in the classroom that included K–8 and adult education. He subsequently served in a range of leadership roles, including School Counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels; Principal at both K–8 and high school sites; Educational Services Director; Assistant Superintendent; and Superintendent of a K–8 school district. He currently serves as Superintendent of the Patterson Joint Unified School District.

Dr. Gauna believes that every day presents an opportunity to prepare learners—both K–12 students and adults—for the future by providing relevant, rigorous, and engaging educational experiences.
