Save The Date! Senior Fest 2013!

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Acclaimed author and historian REV. DR. PAUL MAIER is returning to SENIOR FEST at Concordia University Irvine. He will present seminars on two topics:

Islam and Christianity: For almost fourteen centuries, the Crescent has opposed the Cross. In this seminar, the world’s two largest religions are contrasted in terms of founders, scriptures, history, beliefs, and practices.

Christianity and the Competition: With all world religions claiming to teach the truth, what makes Christianity any different? The credentials of our faith are compared with those of religions in the Far East, the Middle East, and the West. No contest!

You may also choose from one of these four workshop sessions:

  • The Ever Changing World of Taxes – presented by Keith Gunther of the MGM Financial Group in Sante Fe Springs. An overview of the current changes facing Americans with a look at how these changes could impact us. We will look at some of the challenges facing us and the steps we can take to minimize the consequences.
  • Healthy Body, Beautiful Spirit – presented by Marla Lichtsinn, RN, MPA, CIC, FCN. Discussion and demonstration of exercise programs that benefit older adults physically, mentally and spiritually.
  • Impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – presented by Eustolio Gomez, Director of Education, Concordia Plan Services for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Mr. Gomez will share information regarding how the Act relates to workers, employers and persons on Medicare.
  • Exploring Possibilities for Volunteering – presented by Noël Manske Fairchild, DCE. Why should you volunteer your time? What is the best use of your gifts? How can God use you to serve the local church, school and your community? Come join our discussion and you will walk away motivated to start serving!

Co-Sponsored by ALOA— Adult Lutherans Organized for Action-Senior Fest — gathering mature adults for learning, devotions and fellowship with the intent to enhance their physical, spiritual, social and intellectual lives.

Dr. Paul L. Maier is the Russell H. Seibert Professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University and a much-published author of both scholarly and popular works. His novels include two historical documentaries — Pontius Pilate and The Flames of Rome — as well as A Skeleton in God’s Closet , a theological thriller that became a #1 national bestseller in religious fiction when it first released. Sequels, More than a Skeleton and The Constantine Codex , followed in 2003 and 2011.

Dr. Maier lectures widely, appears frequently on national radio, television, and newspaper interviews, and has received numerous awards. He has also penned seven children’s books and hosted six video seminars dealing with Jesus, St. Paul, the early church, and current Christianity.
