Irvine, Calif. (February 4, 2013) – Early Monday morning, Concordia University Irvine learned of the apparent double homicide of two of its alums, Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence. Their bodies were discovered late Sunday evening in Lawrence’s vehicle in the parking structure of their Irvine condominium building. Quan and Lawrence met while students and basketball players at Concordia University Irvine and were engaged to be married.
Quan graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Sports Science (ESS) in 2007 and a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration (MCAA) in 2009, and played basketball for the 2005-2007 seasons. She was an assistant coach under head coach Todd Corman in 2007-2008 and under current head coach Jenny Hansen in 2008-2009.
Lawrence graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, and played basketball at Concordia University Irvine from 2006-2008. In 2007, he was responsible for making the winning shot, sending the game into its 4th overtime, in the NAIA National Tournament Semifinals, earning them a trip to the 2007 NAIA National Championship game; a video of this can be seen on YouTube by clicking here.
“Our campus community is shocked and saddened by this tragic news,” said Kurt Krueger, Concordia University Irvine President. “Our prayers go out to the families and friends of Monica and Keith and know that we mourn along with them.”
