Looseleaf Theatre Co.
In 2011 the theatre department launched a professional theatre company to give students internship opportunities in acting, design, and tech where they could perform and learn alongside working professionals in a summer stock environment. The company was named “Looseleaf" because the shows are produced in Concordia’s beautiful 400-seat outdoor amphitheater and to allude to the company’s focus on classics (which could be found in older books, which could have loose leaf binding …)
In 2012 Looseleaf had its first production - Shakespeare's Twelfth Night which was attended by 1388 people over 5 performances (see photos under “Productions 2011-12”). Audiences picnicked, laughed, and gave the performances standing ovations.
That production utilized Concordia students and professors in all areas from acting, stage management, costumes, and backstage technical areas. They were joined by professional designers and actors from L.A., Orange County, and Hollywood. Looseleaf allows Concordia students the chance to "get their feet wet" in the profession, learn alongside professionals, and gain their first professional credits while still in college.
In 2013 Looseleaf staged Shakespeare’s "As You Like It." The theatre department plans to use Looseleaf Theatre Co. as a unique teaching tool to offer our students "real world" experience while giving the public free, fun entertainment.
