Irvine, Calif. (September 12, 2013)— Concordia University Irvine is honored to host Mr. Anil Singh-Molares as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow September 23-27, 2013. With degrees in philosophy and religion and experience managing international vendor relations for Microsoft, Singh-Molares will speak on the importance of a liberal arts education.
September 23, 2013 | Core Convocation | “Philosophy, Math, and the World of Business.” | 5:30 pm | CU Center
Singh-Molares will draw on ancient Greek philosophers to argue that a good education in philosophy and math will serve anyone in the business world well; along the way he will share his own experiences. He will pay particular attention to the importance of the Socratic method in business.
September 24, 2013 | “Global Citizenship.” | 5:00 pm | Rho Programming Center
Singh-Molares will discuss global citizenship with CUI Bono and Global Village, two Living Learning Communities (small, defined groups of students living on campus who engage closely with faculty and student affairs staff for a holistic, intellectual and interactive learning experience. )
September 25, 2013 | Public Convocation | “Staying Grounded: The Liberal Arts and Life.” | 10:30 am | CU Center
In this public convocation, Singh-Molares will argue that the liberal arts can provide an antidote to losing one’s way. Drawing especially on the ancient Greek philosophers, he will show how studying the liberal arts can help people stay grounded—both in business and in personal life.
"In an age when many politicians, parents and students question the value of liberal arts classes, Mr. Singh-Molares argues that the liberal arts actually help one succeed in business and stay grounded in life,” said David Loy, Professor of Philosophy and Theology at Concordia University Irvine. “As a philosophy major who later ran international vendor relations at Microsoft, he's got a solid resume to prove it."
