Academic Advisor (Freshmen)
Born and raised in old town Orange, Caroline set off to earn her Bachelor's in both Family Studies and Women's Studies from St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota. In 2009, she returned to her alma mater of Orange Lutheran High School, where she served as an English instructor until 2016. She specializes in disabilities services and multicultural education. Caroline began her advising career in Seattle, WA, and in 2019, she was blessed to call CUI her home! Caroline is completing her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy and is eager to further the mission of "developing wise, honorable, and cultivated citizens."
Assistant Director of Academic Advising (Seniors and New Transfers)
Shelly Flath graduated from California State University, Chico in 1991 with a B.A. in Psychology. She received her M.A in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University, Irvine in 2018. Originally from Northern California, she and her family have lived in Orange county for the past 21 years. After working for many years in the IUSD system with students of all ages, she now finds a home at Concordia where she serves as Assistant Director of Academic Advising. She enjoys a passion for assisting undergraduate students on their academic journey.
Mel moved from Colorado to California 30 years ago to be closer to family. She became the Administrative Assistant for the Department of Student Success in the summer of 2016. Mel truly enjoys greeting the students of Concordia and helping with administrative support for the Advisors.
Associate Director of Student Success (WINGS and JUMPSTART)
Roberto Marquez graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in 2001 with a BA degree in Sociology. He grew up in Baldwin Park, CA. He has been working at Concordia University Irvine since 2003, in a variety of roles as an admissions counselor, Graduate Admissions Counselor, Assistant Director of Admissions and his current role of Associate Director of Student Success, coordinating the Wings and Jump Start program (First Generation). He received his MA in Coaching & Athletic Administration at Concordia University in 2010. He previously coached football and basketball at Baldwin Park High School. He is the current advisor to the Nuestra Voz Club and Hawaiian Club on campus. He is inspired by his students on daily basis by the hard work and sacrifice to accomplish their ultimate goal of graduating from Concordia University Irvine! He looks most forward to the impact they will have in society as CUI alumni!
Director of Academic Advising and Student Success
Brittany Neal grew up in Southern California and graduated from Concordia University Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in History, pursuing secondary education. After working many years for a local business, she began her work in higher education in CUI’s Registrar’s Office in 2013. Brittany earned her Master of Education from the University of Southern California and now serves as the Director of Academic Advising and Student Success. Brittany is grateful for the opportunity to assist students in their pursuit of a baccalaureate degree and vocational goals.
Academic Advisor (Sophomores and Juniors)
Jazlyn Ortuno graduate from Concordia University Irvine in 2017 with a B.A. in Behavioral Science: Psychology. She began as an academic advisor at Concordia University following graduation. She hopes to continue her education and obtain a Master of Social Work degree in the near future. Jazlyn is excited to work one-on-one with the Freshmen and Sophomore population and is grateful for the opportunity to assist students in achieving their academic goals during their time at Concordia University Irvine.
