June 10, 2021 - 1 minute read

During its 2021 Celebrate Irvine: Honoring Community Frontline Heroes event, the Greater Irvine Chamber honored some of the community's frontline heroes who have performed above and beyond their normal work duties to serve the community's greater good. Associate Dean of Student Wellness Michelle Laabs was honored as a Community Hero with the following recognition.

"From the start of the pandemic, Michelle has been a powerful advocate for the university, its students, faculty, and staff, and for the specific needs of higher education institutions in Orange County. She was instrumental in facilitating a group of healthcare professionals that regularly met with Dr. Clayton Chau of the Orange County Health Care Agency to raise issues and concerns specific to college and university campuses. At Concordia, Michelle leads a team that works, often around the clock and through the weekends, to meet the testing and healthcare needs of Concordia students and the campus community. She worked with a local pharmacy group to offer vaccinations on campus to Concordia students and employees."

Concordia is thankful to Michelle for her leadership and tireless efforts to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for our campus community amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
