Application for Graduation
Degree posting is not automatic and all students who wish to have their degree posted must complete an Application for Graduation. This is necessary regardless of intent to participate in the commencement ceremony. All coursework must be scheduled for completion by the end of the last term of enrollment. It is the student's responsibility to submit the following to the Registrar's Office:
- Application for Graduation signed by their academic advisor
- Application fee (payable by echeck, cash, check, or credit card)
- Degree audit (undergraduate students)
Meeting the application deadline is very important to ensure there isn't a delay in getting your degree posted. The application deadlines and fees are as follows:
|Fall 2016 |
|By September 16 ||$184 |
|September 16 - October 28 ||$214 |
|After October 28 ||$339 |
Caps and Gowns
Regalia is available at Grad Fest (held on campus in November and March) or through the Registrar's office. Beginning with summer 2016 applicants for graduation, there is no cost for undergraduate and masters regalia and everything is included (cap, gown, tassel, stole for undergraduates and hood for master students). Gowns are sized according to height and weight and are ordered according to information provided by the student on the Application for Graduation. See the Cap and Gown Sizing Guidelines to ensure the correct size is ordered. For undergraduate students, a cap and gown will not be issued until proof of degree requirement completion is established (receipt of outstanding transcripts, proof of enrollment, substitution forms, etc).
Commencement information can be found on the Commencement Page.
A student cannot receive credit for more than 21 units in a semester, including units from regular courses taken on campus, courses taken off campus, individualized study courses and correspondence courses.
Degrees will be posted after all requirements have been satisfied. Concordia posts degrees three times a year—at the completion of the regular Summer (August), regular Fall (December), and regular Spring (May) terms. Degrees are not posted mid-term, even if a program ends mid-term. Please allow 4-6 weeks after the end of the regular term for the final posting of your degree and make future plans accordingly.
See the Catalog for specific requirements.
Official diplomas are issued 6-8 weeks after the degree is posted at the end of the term. They are mailed to the current address on file unless special arrangements are made. Replacement diplomas are available by completing the Diploma Reorder Form. The cost for a replacement diploma is $25 and takes 6-8 weeks to obtain.
All students must submit payment for the application fee (cash, check or credit card) at the time of application. This fee is non-refundable and is assessed regardless of the student's intent to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students who do not complete their degree requirements in the academic year in which they applied will be required to submit a Reapply Graduation Application, along with any necessary transcripts.
Honors are awarded to undergraduate students for the commencement ceremony and are based on the cumulative grade point average at the end of the semester prior to graduation term. Honors are not awarded to graduate programs. Commencement participants who are recipients will receive honor cords/stoles at the Academic Achievements Ceremony on Friday prior to their Commencement Ceremony or at the staging area on Commencement Day. Once final grades are calculated, honor status will be re-evaluated and may change. Honors are noted on the student's transcript and diploma.
|Cum Laude ||3.70-3.79 |
|Magna Cum Laude ||3.80-3.89 |
|Summa Cum Laude ||3.90-4.00 |
Proof of Enrollment
Students who are concurrently enrolled in units at another school must provide proof of enrollment during their last semester after census date. If they withdraw from the course(s) after submitting the proof, they are obligated to notify the Registrar's Office and their graduation status must be re-evaluated. No applications for graduation will be accepted without proof of enrollment for all outstanding course requirements.
Reapply Graduation Application
Students who do not complete their degree requirements in the academic year in which they applied will be required to submit a Reapply Graduation Application. If degree requirements were completed at another institution, official transcripts must also be sent to the Registrar's Office. The degree will be posted within 4-6 weeks after receiving the application and any necessary transcripts.
Residency (Traditional Undergraduate)
Students must complete a minimum of 32 units in residence. Eighteen (18) of the last twenty-four (24) units must be completed at Concordia. A minimum of 27 total upper division units (18 in the major) must be completed at Concordia.
Statement of Completion
A student who qualifies and is continuing on into Concordia's Fifth Year Teaching Program or Master of Business Administration (MBA) program may have a portion of their final semester's units count toward their credential or MBA degree. A Statement of Completion must be submitted to the Registrar's Office before the undergraduate degree is posted.
Education Statement of Completion
MBA Statement of Completion
When all class work is completed and grades have been submitted, the Registrar's Office will post the degree to the transcript. A copy of the official transcript may be requested by submitting a Transcript Request Form and will be processed provided all financial obligations to the University have been met.
The following courses have limits to the number of units that can be counted towards graduation:
|Type of Course ||Unit Limit |
|Applied Music (lessons, ensembles) ||4 |
|PE Activities |
|Practicum - Excluding units required in the major ||4 |
