"Singing the Faith: Why Lutherans Love Music"
Using personal anecdotes, historical context, scriptural inspiration, audience participation, and music, Dr. Held will guide you to a closer connection with the great songs of the church and encouragement to share them with our youth.
Dr. Jeff Held, Asst. Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences and Director of Orchestral Activities
Jeff Held is Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, Conductor of the Concordia Wind Orchestra and Sinfonietta. His music education started as a young boy in the church - chanting the liturgy, singing solos, ringing handbells, and playing trumpet. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran School and Lutheran High North in Houston, TX; received a bachelor's degree in music from Valparaiso University, a master's degree in Instrumental Pedagogy from the American Band College at Southern Oregon University, and a doctorate in music education from Boston University. He has a long association with Lutheran Summer Music Academy, including a recently-completed tenure as Vice-President of its Board of Directors.
