Angela Ferguson, MBA '13

For Angela Ferguson, deciding to earn her MBA through Concordia University Irvine was an easy decision. She knew CUI had a recognizable and reputable name, but it wasn’t until she started to look closely that she discovered even more compelling reasons to attend. Ultimately, it was the flexibility that sealed the deal. “I chose Concordia because it allowed me the most flexibility in course selection and schedule. I was able to tailor my education around my career—even if that meant I had to travel for business.”

Once enrolled, Ferguson experienced first-hand why Concordia has such a strong reputation among graduate business schools. “The program helped ground me in traditional business concepts and gave me insights on my own business. It broadened my knowledge on new concepts and different strategies other companies were implementing,” says Ferguson. Discussing these strategies with other students, and hearing how they were implementing them in their own business practices, helped her learn different ways to apply the similar strategies.

I chose Concordia because it allowed me the most flexibility in course selection and schedule. I was able to tailor my education around my career—even if that meant I had to travel for business.

It was also the breadth of experience at CUI that stood out to Ferguson. While enrolled in the program, she went on a 10-day MBA trip to Shanghai. She and her classmates experienced the culture and were exposed to a wide array of businesses. “I was impressed by the CUI connection there and would recommend anyone with the time and resources to go. It was incredible!” recalls Ferguson.

Ferguson credits the MBA Program at CUI for her professional growth. “Talking about concepts in and out of the classroom helped me try those new concepts in my career more quickly and successfully,” remarks Ferguson. She is currently the Senior Manager of Business Applications at Jostens, where she is the resident Salesforce Certified Administrator who manages the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution. In this role, Ferguson determines the best plan for new features, trains and supports users on existing functionality, and builds reports and dashboards for leadership to most efficiently view data entered.

Since graduating with her MBA, Ferguson weathered an organizational change that eliminated her department. During that transition year, she transitioned to the Marketing department, and then landed in Information Technology about 18 months post-graduation. Since completing the program, she has received two promotions and—perhaps mostly importantly—she says, ”I love my job!”
