Irvine, Calif. (September 12, 2013)— The “Mac Lab” (computer lab room) at Concordia University Irvine has received a major overhaul this summer. The new computers were purchased in order to invest in the Graphic Arts, Theater and Music degree programs and will benefit other programs that hold classes here. A plan is being developed to donate all of the old computers to a school that educates under-served youth.

All 28 computers have been replaced with 27" LED-backlit LCD displays and Mac OS 10. This includes one instructor iMac, 24 student stations and three extra computers in a small lab room dedicated for use by graphic design majors when a class is in session. The computers include the software Adobe Master Collection CS6, Office 2011 and several sound editing and composition software including Sibelius and Finale.

The director of the graphic design program Rachel Soo explains, “The upgrade of the Mac Lab with new iMac computers, Wacom drawing tablets, scanner and color printer has been much anticipated by the faculty and students of the Art Department both Art Majors and Graphic Design majors. All graphic design classes are taught in the Mac Lab, so keeping the software and hardware up-to-date keeps us at the cutting edge of current technology.”

The new iMac specifications include:

  • 27" LED-backlit LCD display
  • Intel Core i7 3.4 GHz Quad-Core CPU
  • 32GB PC312800 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
  • 1TB Fusion Drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX Video with 2GB GDDR5
  • HD Camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet
  • Wacom Intuos 5 USB Multi-touch Pen Tablets
