Concordia Student Marketing Team Repeats Top Honors
at National Student Marketing Competition

Irvine, CA -  (April 15, 2013)— For a second year, the Concordia University Irvine student marketing team earned first-place honors at the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) National Student Marketing Competition April 12. The Irvine team included seniors Meghan Jones, Melissa Merrill, Angelina Ortiz and Caitlin Zank, guided by faculty advisor Carolyn Shiery, assistant professor of marketing. The team presented a creative plan that included the tagline “Making a Difference through Stewardship.”

“Once again this year, we are impressed with the preparation and enthusiasm the students have for this event. They approach it seriously yet creatively,” said Richard C. Robertson, LCEF President/CEO. “Engaging the students through this competition provides a realistic project for which they can apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom.  And LCEF gains remarkable insights and usable ideas from these up-and-coming leaders.”

Second- and third-place winners were Concordia University Texas, Austin, and Concordia University St. Paul, Minn., respectively. A total of six Concordia system schools participated in this year’s event. LCEF provides cash prizes ranging from a $5,000 first-place award to $750 participation prizes.

Each school assembled a team that researched and developed a marketing campaign from beginning to end, with the goal of creating awareness and bringing in new LCEF investors from among the Concordia University communities. Students presented their research and final campaigns to a judging panel at The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) International Center in St. Louis.

 LCEF Mission

The mission of LCEF is to support the church in fulfilling its mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ by being a Christ-centered servant partner of the LCMS, ensuring funds and services are available now and in the future. A not-for-profit, LCEF provides low-cost loans and ministry-enhancing resources to LCMS ministries and rostered church workers through the investment support of church members.
