Graduate Certificate Programs Added to Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine Launching in March

IRVINE, Calif. (February 20, 2017)Concordia University Irvine (CUI) today announced three new, online graduate certificate programs that will be offered beginning in March through the new Townsend Institute for Leadership & Counseling (TILC) led by New York Times best-selling author, psychologist, and leadership coach John Townsend, Ph.D. The new certificate programs—in Executive Coaching, Organizational Leadership, and Counseling—are additions to the master's degree programs in Organizational Leadership and Counseling. Inaugural classes begin in March. All degree and certificate programs have received accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

"Offering the graduate certificate programs in addition to the master's degree programs will provide students with more options to best meet their needs," said Concordia University Irvine President Kurt Krueger. "We look forward to helping students prepare for their vocations and various callings in life through the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine."

Known for its competency-plus-character model which emphasizes the importance of competence (task and subject matter expertise skill sets) and character (one’s abilities to relate well to others and oneself) in leadership roles, the Townsend Institute is part of the School of Professional Studies at Concordia University Irvine, a non-profit Christian university in Irvine. Certificate courses at the Institute may be applied toward a master’s degree. According to administrators, inquiry and enrollment numbers to date make this the largest program launch for the private university. Enrollment began in October.

The four-day, on-campus launch of inaugural classes with Institute founder John Townsend will culminate in a one-day symposium with Townsend and Institute Fellows like Daniel Amen, M.D. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The symposium—open to the public—includes the program, handouts, and dinner. Registration, at $25 per person, is limited. For a complete list of speakers and to register, visit www.cui.edu/townsend/symposium.

John Townsend—who has written 30 books and sold 10 million copies, including the best-selling Boundaries series—has been helping organizations and individuals to achieve success for more than 20 years. He co-hosts a nationally-syndicated radio program with three million listeners, New Life Live. Townsend earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University and master’s in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.
