Concordia University Irvine Faculty and Staff Elected into Orange County Business Chambers

Irvine, Calif. (June 6, 2013)--Two of Concordia University Irvine’s academic program leaders have been elected into two local chambers of commerce; Paul Marquardt for the City of Orange and Anthony Cosenza for the City of Irvine.

Paul Marquardt, Assistant Dean of Business and Professional Studies, will be installed on the Board of Directors at the Orange Chamber of Commerce on July 1st. In addition, within the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, Anthony Cosenza, Concordia’s Business and Community Liaison, has accepted the position as Chair for the Emerging Professionals group. Both of these leadership opportunities at the chambers will give Concordia University Irvine and the School of Business and Professional Studies additional exposure to the Orange County business community.

“Higher education needs to do a much better job of understanding and responding to the needs and desires of the local communities they serve,” said Paul Marquardt. “To this end, Concordia University Irvine has embarked upon a strategic initiative to serve our local OC communities, and one key way is to offer our service in local chambers.”

The theme at the Orange Chamber of Commerce under incoming Board Chairman, Dan Young of Morgan Stanley, will be “Servant Leadership” and Marquardt will contribute his expertise and passion in service to the business community in Orange.

“I believe responsive and practical higher education is a key ingredient to continuing to keep the OC economy competitive in our global marketplace,” noted Marquardt. “College education is about developing personally and intellectually, but also about leading to a fulfilling professional career and employment opportunities.”

Cosenza stated of his leadership role, "Being involved in the Irvine Chamber of Commerce's Emerging Professionals group is important on a number of fronts. It shows that Concordia University has a commitment to the incoming leaders of our communities and the desire to work with and cultivate relationships with those emerging leaders. Taking a leadership position as the Chair of the EP group is humbling and exciting and brings CUI in a leadership role among many others in similar roles with prominent companies and organizations in the Irvine business community."
