ATW: Summer

  • Travel during the summer through a selected region of the world on an academic journey curated and led by Concordia staff and faculty.
  • Study on location in a way that brings academic concepts to life through vibrant firsthand experiences.
  • Serve alongside peers and build meaningful relationships with diverse international communities.

Summer is designed to make ATW’s high-caliber faculty-guided travel experience available to a broad range of students. The travel portion of the program is offered during the summer to accommodate students whose busy schedules might regularly inhibit them from participating in a traditional semester abroad.

Each rendition of the trip is designed around a course that satisfies one of the Q&I Exploration requirements, allowing it to work with most grad plans. Because students register for the program’s selected course in the Spring semester, additional tuition costs are rarely required. By employing creative travel approaches, Concordia is able to keep the program fee low and arm students with skills to plan their own future travels.

Travel Courses

The purpose of the intensive term course offering is to provide students an immersion experience in a specific discipline or field of study either in the on-campus environment or via travel experience. In cases where local field trips or travel within the United States is involved, it is an opportunity to see content principles in action or view historic sites. Experiences involving international travel offer the student a first-hand global perspective of the culture and language of another country. As with all course offerings, the mission of the university is at the heart of the experience.

Student Participation

Students enrolled at Concordia University, Irvine the semester previous to the intensive sessions are eligible to participate in the intensive courses. Please consult with your advisor as to appropriateness of the course to your graduation plan. Contact the International Center for more information about travel courses.
