Library Improvements

Classroom 007 has been returned to the Library. The space will be used for new shelving which will accommodate 15,000 additional books! The other part of the room will be used as a quiet study area. Throughout the library, furniture has been rearranged to allow the use of 30 new electrical outlets.

The Curriculum Room (rm.LA101) is also being used for Library Instruction. It holds up to 22 students for Info-sessions or requested Library classes.

The University Archives have been ideally relocated to rm. LA114B. Under the auspices of founding Librarian Dale Hartmann, the valuable items from

Concordia University’s history will be well-preserved.

Librarians Meet Faculty in Division Meetings

Concordia University Librarians had the privilege of speaking to several Divisions’ Faculty: Business, Education, E.S.S., Humanities, Social Sciences, and Christ College faculty. They were able to share information on Reference Services, Interlibrary Loans, Reserves, Info-sessions, and Resource Guides, and they look forward to meeting the remaining Faculty next semester.

Library Info-sessions a Success

Library Instruction Workshops, now known as Info-sessions are held every Wednesday at 10:30-11:00am and again from 4:30 to 5:00pm in Rm. LA101, the Curriculum/Instruction room.

They’ve been especially well-attended this Fall semester thanks to professors who have encouraged and even given extra credit to their students to attend. Special thanks go to Professors Adam Lee, Jenny Cosgrove, Alice Berghof, John Rooney, Dee Ann Ragaisis, Melinda Schulteis, and Julia Melberg.

Faculty, please consider promoting these Info-sessions in your syllabi to your students. These will continue in the Spring semester, and suggested topics are always welcome. (These are in addition to regular Library Orientations and individual classroom library instruction.)

DID YOU KNOW…?

…36 library classes have been conducted since September.
…170 student groups have used the Conference/Study rooms this semester.
…200 students have attended the Wednesday Info-sessions this semester.

How to Get Reference Help

Library Reference Services offer several options:

Ask for help at the Reference Desk downstairs (see hours above.) --Make an appointment with a Reference Librarian for one-on-one help. --Request (on our homepage) instruction in the library or in the classroom. – Contact us by phone, x.1501, or email at librarian@cui.edu.

InterLibrary Loan (ILL) is GROWING!

Interlibrary Loan is a resource-sharing service provided for Concordia University members without charge. This semester, an increasing number of books/journals articles have been loaned from other universities for use by CU faculty and students. Go to http://library.cui.edu for the ILL/WorldCatlink.

1) Locate the book using WorldCat search. 2) Click on the book title and then on "Borrow this item from another library." 3) Complete the required information and then ‘submit.’ It may take up to two weeks to obtain the book, and loan times vary. Questions? Call Rose at 1501.
